For the love of birds

I am making an art quilt for a local bird center that is having an art show.
The theme is birds by the numbers.

Finding public domain bird silhouettes on the internet,  traced them on fusible. I then cut a heart out of paper and put the birds inside, forming a heart.

There will be more - I'll show you the finish next week.

  1. I've been listening to a Crewel World mystery this week titled Blackwork. I wasn't familiar with the genre of blackwork embroidery. What you have done with the birds to compose a heart shape is very similar in feel to blackwork, without the stitching. Great choice of silhouettes.

  3. I too feel this is another fabulous piece. What is the size of the smaller bird and the size of the biggest bird? Great idea. I really like birds and trees especially.

    1. Thank you Ruth! The biggest is 4 to 5 inches and the smallest around 2.
